Coffee lovers were treated to a free show last Wednesday night at Borjo Coffeehouse as Conor Mulroy soothed listeners for over an hour with classically influenced bluegrass music. This stop in Norfolk is one of many in Mulroy’s nationwide tour. This tour is allowing Mulroy to further promote his June 5 release “Foxfire.”.

Television legend Sam Simon met with a small group of Old Dominion students on March 2. The meeting took place late Saturday morning within the Baton Arts and Letters building. Sam Simon is an Emmy award winning television producer, director and writer. Simon has worked within the television industry for decades and is most known for co-creating “The Simpsons.”.

Last year, the Texas based urban planning and committee organizers, Team Better Block, identified three Norfolk sites that would fit the Better Block vision. Norfolk’s first site, Granby Street, was a success last April and acted as the test site for future revitalization. Team Better Block is hoping to recreate that success with historic W. 35 St. this upcoming Nov. 8th and 9th.

After two hours of sleep and more cups of coffee than I can remember, I considered never graduating or at least further delaying the process. For lack of a better term, the realization of adulthood is scary, but it’s even scarier when you realize that you are an adult. Old Dominion has caught dance fever and is now gathering in groups to Harlem shake like millions across the globe. On Sunday, Old Dominion students Ilana Davlin and Andrei Poleshchuk hosted an ODU Harlem Shake video on the front steps of Webb Center. A simple comment posted by Poleshchuk on the ODU Confessions Facebook page planted the event’s seed.

Brooklyn based band, Ambassadors, rocked fans to a sold out crowd on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Norfolk’s staple concert venue, The NorVA. Born and raised in Ithaca, New York, childhood friends Sam Harris, Casey Harris and Noah Feldshuh and New York import, Adam Levin, who the other band mates met while attending New School University, make up the Ambassadors.

Notorious for endless drug references and female appreciation, counter culture thrived at The Norva Sept. 25. Danny Brown, Schoolboy Q, and standout star A$AP Rocky from hip-hop collective A$AP Mob, shut down a full house Tuesday night. Buzzed sides and crooked teeth, the eclectic Detroit native Danny Brown began his set with “Witit,” a bonus track from his 2011 release XXX.

Three weeks ago, I watched my social media timelines fill with tips and suggestions on how to become a new, not revised, me in the upcoming year. While the messages were well-written, humorous and somewhat inspirational, I couldn’t help but think, why can’t I just build with the person I am now? Then I remembered that I can.

Old Dominion University students now have the opportunity to view mtvU inside of the Webb Center. In addition to being aired on channel 71, students can now view mtvU on screens within Café 1201, KC’s Lion’s Den Game Room and on screen near Subway. MtvU is broadcasted across the nation to more than 750 college campuses thus making it the largest television network just for college students.

The two poets each read from their poetry selections. Seibles read poems from his new book, “Fast Animals” and Raisor read poems from his book “Swimming in the Shallow End.”.

For almost 30 years, the Hope House Foundation has hosted the Stockley Gardens Arts Festival bi-annually, every third weekend in May and October, in an attempt to bring art, music and food to the Norfolk community. Located in Ghent’s Stockley Gardens Park, the festival also raises money to help pay for the housing, transportation and medical care for people with intellectual disabilities.
